The beginning of the school year is quickly approaching for students who live at Pomona by Hillwood, and parents are sure to have lots of questions about Alvin ISD virtual classes. From elementary school to high school, we’ve compiled a helpful guide to Alvin ISD Covid-19 precautions and protocols.

A look at Alvin ISD Schools

Students who live in Pomona attend schools in the Alvin ISD, the second largest school district in Brazoria County. One of the many reasons homeowners love Pomona is proximity to excellent schools, with both the junior high school and Manvel High School campuses located within seven miles of the community.

Pomona Elementary is home to the newest Alvin ISD elementary school. Located off Kirby Drive and Pomona Parkway, children are within walking distance from this brand new, state-of-the-art school.

Information on the 2020-2021 School Year

The school year for Manvel ISD will officially begin August 24, 2020. The District is giving parents and students the option to choose between on-campus, face-to-face learning and Alvin ISD virtual classes.

back to school

For students attending school on campus:

Campuses will be continuously cleaned throughout the day.  Special attention will be paid to frequently touched surfaces, objects of student transition, and high-volume common areas. District staff have been trained in use of approved professional cleaning and disinfecting products using methods developed for safe use in the school environment.

After hours deep cleaning will be done at the end of each school day with sanitization of the instructional areas, restrooms, and common areas for quality assurance.

Alvin ISD staff will be required to self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms prior to reporting to work each day and parents and guardians are expected to screen their students for COVID-19 symptoms each day prior to sending their student to school. Teachers will monitor students and refer students to the nurse if symptoms are present.

Alvin ISD will rely on guidance from the Department of State Health Services (DSHS), Brazoria County Health Department, and/or executive orders or directives from Governor Greg Abbott or local county and city officials to determine the community transmission level and use of face coverings. To begin the school year face covering/masks for staff and Students in grades 1-12 will be required. They will be highly encouraged for students in both PreK and kindergarten.

Elementary students will have designated times for recess and other physical activities. Outdoor play and learning will be encouraged.

virtual learning

For students learning remotely:

AVL - Alvin Virtual Learning - is Alvin ISD’s online instructional program for students who choose to learn from home. Students enrolled in virtual learning will have the same attendance requirements as those attending school face-to-face.

Students must be enrolled in Alvin ISD to enroll in AVL. Since the deadline for New Student Enrollment has passed, you will need to go to your home campus to complete the enrollment process if you have not done so already. The Alvin Virtual Learning Commitment Form can be found on the Alvin ISD website.

This change can be accommodated if your decision is made and communicated by August 7. You can make this change by contacting your home campus to let them know that your child will be coming to the campus for face-to-face instruction instead of participating in AVL.

The deadline for making the change from AVL to face-to-face learning has passed. Special circumstances that affect a family will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Students who move from virtual learning to face-to-face learning may not be guaranteed to be assigned to their home campus based on staffing and grade level/course enrollment availability.
